clearly there were two significant literary periods in my life that will forever stick with me: the depressed, awkward, creepy junior high phase (in cold blood, helter skelter, the shining, marilyn manson); and the depressed, awkward, sleeping-with-losers-in-college chick lit phase.
that’s just what sticks with me.
hey a lot of yours that i don’t have are ones that i would have put on mine too if i had enough room. for some reason valley of the dolls always sticks with me. i love flannery o’connor. all francesca will stay with me. and omg she’s come undone. that would have definitely been on mine too! shit i’ll never forget that book.
ah, shit girl! i feel like no one’s ever read she’s come undone and that book wrecked me growing up. i think about it all the time and make references no one gets. valley of the dolls is just my personal hell. i don’t understand what’s so wrong with the premise of it, but i judy garland-out at least 5 times a week. i knew you’d get the francesca—i saw it on my shelf and was like, “aw yeah, lily’s gonna feel me on this one.”
as for your list, i considered franny and zooey but i didn’t want to double dip on salinger. your list is so classy, my list is so trashy. it’s like referencing bad movies when everyone else is talking about citizen kane.
man, now i really want to go to green apple books next month.
omg i love you. i laughed like 10 times reading your response. i ALWAYS reference she’s come undone! oh man! yeah and no one understands. see and i of course wanted to put “catcher in the rye” but i too didn’t want to double dip on salinger. and franny and zooey was my favorite book growing up so i had to put it instead.
man if my list is classy its only because i thought of all those books first and then of course all my trashy ones come to mind afterwards. i love my trashy books. they keep me sane in between all of the classics.
OMG CAN WE PLEASE GO TO GREEN APPLE???? my favorite place ever.
